A children's title from M. D. Gunasena's Read & Colour series, which takes stories by Sybil Wettasinghe and presents them in a form a child can both read and colour in. The story here is Foxy is Fooled, told in English.
The idea behind the series is simple: the pictures that go with the text are left for the child to fill in, so reading and colouring happen together rather than one after the other. The publisher describes it as an attempt to encourage creativity and imagination in children, and to let them practise colouring while following a story they are already enjoying.
Sybil Wettasinghe was a Sri Lankan writer and illustrator of children's books, and her stories have been read by generations of children in Sri Lanka. The Read & Colour format brings a selection of them to young readers in a shape suited to small hands and coloured pencils.
Suitable for children who are beginning to read on their own or reading along with an adult, and for anyone abroad looking for Sri Lankan children's stories in English for a child at home or in a classroom.
