A Sinhala classic of Buddhist devotional verse, composed by Vidagama Maithreya Thera, here in an edition prepared by Dewundara Wachissara Thero for M. D. Gunasena.
The work sets out in verse a body of important points of doctrine drawn from the Tipitaka. Learning it, by the publisher's account, gives the reader some grounding in the Tipitaka itself — the poem serving as a way into canonical material for those who come to it through Sinhala verse rather than through Pali. The closing verse of the poem names Vidagama Maithreya Thera as the one who compiled it.
The entire text is in Sinhala, including the verses and any supporting matter, so buyers outside Sri Lanka should be confident reading the script before ordering. There is no English translation in this volume.
It will suit readers of classical Sinhala poetry, students of Buddhist literature working in the language, and households where the verses are recited or taught. M. D. Gunasena is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller with a substantial Sinhala list.
