A Sinhala children's story book from one of Sybil Wettasinghe's newer series for young readers. The whole text is in Sinhala — there is no English in it — so it suits households raising children in the language, or Sinhala classes abroad looking for reading material from Sri Lanka rather than translated into it.
It is a short book, set in large type, and the publisher intends it for children in the primary grades: the sort of book a child can get through in a sitting, either alone or with an adult reading alongside. Colour pictures run through it.
Sybil Wettasinghe is among the names that Sri Lankan readers associate with children's books in Sinhala, as both writer and artist, and her stories have been part of growing up on the island for generations of children. This title belongs to her later work for the same age group.
