A children's title in Sinhala, published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. International buyers should note that the entire text is in Sinhala script; there is no English text.
It belongs to the Great Stories series and carries the Sinhala title Pitarataval Kathuvaru — foreign authors. The book gathers the life stories of writers whose books shaped modern reading for children and adults alike: Carlo Collodi, R. K. Narayan, Theodor Seuss Geisel, Roald Dahl, J. K. Rowling and Jeff Kinney. Each is presented as a biography written for young readers, following the course of a working life rather than summarising the books themselves.
The pages are in colour and the writing is pitched at a child's level of comprehension. The publisher's intention is plainly stated: the stories are offered as encouragement, showing determination, creativity and persistence at work in real lives, so that a young reader might take some confidence in their own abilities from them.
Written by Thanuja Krishil Nirmalee. Suitable for Sinhala-reading children at home or in a school library, and of interest to Sri Lankan families abroad who want reading material in Sinhala for children already familiar with these authors in English.
