About this experience
Your guide collects you from your Colombo hotel and drives you in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to the jungle fringes of Kitulgala — roughly a 90-minute journey. From there, you hike through dense forest before stepping inside Belilena Cave, an active archaeological site where fossils and skeletal remains date back more than 10,000 years. Your English-speaking guide explains the significance of the excavations, including the celebrated bones of the 'Balangoda Man', one of Sri Lanka's earliest known inhabitants. A one-litre water bottle is provided for the hike.
This private, 9-hour day tour is open to travellers aged 7 and above. Hotel pickup, drop-off, transport, entrance fees, and your guide are all covered by Lakpura. Lunch and personal expenses are not included, so bring local currency for a meal near Kitulgala. Gratuities are entirely at your discretion.
