Vrischika (Scorpio) and Dhanu (Sagittarius) are neighbouring signs, and their rashi-level matching changes noticeably depending on which partner is the bride. This page explains what the calculator finds at sign level in both directions, and why the two birth stars ultimately decide the match.
Which rashi does this page mean?
In Sri Lankan matching, rashi means the moon sign (chandra rashi). This is the sign the Moon occupied at birth in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka, not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes. Many people called 'Scorpio' in Western terms have a different moon sign, so it is worth confirming yours from a horoscope first. Vrischika and Dhanu sit side by side in the zodiac. Mars rules Vrischika and Jupiter rules Dhanu. Three porondam and porutham items depend only on the two signs: the rashi item itself, the friendship of the rashi lords, and vashya. Every other item depends on the birth stars.
What does the rashi count show in each direction?
The count runs from the bride's sign to the groom's, so the number changes depending on who is born in which sign.
With the bride in Vrischika and the groom in Dhanu, the groom's sign is 2nd from the bride's. For this count, the rashi item is not obtained in either the Sinhala porondam or the Tamil porutham.
With the bride in Dhanu and the groom in Vrischika, the count is 12. Here the Sinhala rashi porondam is partly obtained and the Tamil rasi porutham is obtained.
The same two signs therefore read differently once the direction is reversed. This is why the calculator always asks which partner is the bride.
Are Mars and Jupiter friendly, and is vashya obtained?
Mars, lord of Vrischika, and Jupiter, lord of Dhanu, are mutual friends. Because of this, rashyadhipathi porondam and rasi adhipathi porutham are obtained in both directions. This is a steady, pleasant point in this pairing.
Vashya looks at a traditional sense of attraction or influence between the two signs. It is not obtained in either direction, in both the Sinhala and the Tamil systems.
These three items are fixed by the signs alone and form only part of the picture. Most of the assessment comes from the birth stars, so no conclusion should rest on rashi-level results by themselves.
Why do the birth stars decide the real match?
Each rashi holds nine star-quarters (nakshatra padas). A Vrischika–Dhanu pairing therefore covers 81 star-quarter combinations, and the calculator's results vary widely across them.
With the bride in Vrischika, none of the 81 combinations reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams. In the Tamil system, 70% rate as weak. On the Sinhala side, 41% pass the porondam when the weekday item is left out.
With the bride in Dhanu, 30% reach 8 of 10 poruthams and 41% rate as weak. On the Sinhala side, 60% pass the porondam.
In neither direction does any combination show a Tamil rajju clash. Your own result depends entirely on your two birth stars.
