Question 1

Where exactly is Rangali Island located in the Maldives?

Accepted Answer

Rangali Island is in Alif Dhaal Atoll, in the central-south part of the Maldives. It is a private resort island accessible only by seaplane from Velana International Airport in Malé, roughly 30 minutes' flying time away.

Question 2

How much does it cost to stay on Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

Rangali Island is one of the Maldives' ultra-luxury properties, and rates vary significantly by villa category and season. Entry-level beach villas typically cost several hundred US dollars per night, while overwater suites and the subsea suite command substantially more. It is best to request a current quote directly or through a DMC such as Lakpura, as rates fluctuate and promotions are periodically available.

Question 3

Is the underwater restaurant on Rangali Island worth it?

Accepted Answer

The underwater restaurant is a genuinely novel experience — dining below the lagoon surface with unobstructed views of the reef through curved acrylic windows. Whether it justifies the premium depends on personal priorities, but for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion it is widely regarded as one of the Maldives' most distinctive dining settings. Reservations should be made well before arrival as availability is limited.

Question 4

Can you snorkel directly from your villa on Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Overwater bungalow guests can descend directly from their villa jetty into the lagoon. The house reef is close to the villa row and supports healthy coral, reef fish, and the occasional reef shark or ray. Snorkelling equipment is provided, and guided snorkel sessions with the marine biology team are also available.

Question 5

What is the difference between the two islands at Rangali?

Accepted Answer

The main island, Rangali, is open to all guests including families and features the majority of restaurants, the children's club, and a wide villa selection. The smaller Rangalifinolhu island is adults-only (16 and over) and offers a quieter, more secluded atmosphere with its own villas and the overwater spa. The two islands are connected by a 500-metre footbridge.

Question 6

Do I need to be a certified diver to enjoy the reef at Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

No. Snorkelling from the villa jetty or on guided house-reef sessions is accessible to non-divers and provides excellent encounters with marine life. For those who want to dive deeper, the water sports centre offers PADI introductory lessons for complete beginners as well as guided dives for certified divers.

Question 7

Can I combine a Rangali Island stay with a Sri Lanka holiday?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Many travellers route through Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport, spend several days exploring Sri Lanka, then continue to Malé for a Maldives extension. Lakpura, based in Sri Lanka, can arrange the Sri Lanka portion of such itineraries including transfers, accommodation, and guided tours.

Question 8

What is the best villa type for a honeymoon on Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

Overwater bungalows and two-storey water suites on the adults-only Rangalifinolhu island are the most sought-after for honeymoons, combining privacy, direct lagoon access, and sunset views. The two-storey suites add an upper-deck plunge pool and butler service. Booking as early as possible is advisable, as these categories fill first for peak honeymoon dates.
