This page looks at marriage matching between Simha (Leo) and Tula (Libra) in both Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham. The results come from Lakpura's calculator engine and cover both directions: the bride in Simha with the groom in Tula, and the reverse. As you will see, the rashi is only the starting point, and the birth stars carry far more weight.
Which Simha and Tula are we talking about?
In Sri Lanka, porondam and porutham use the moon sign (chandra rashi): the sign the Moon occupied at birth, read in the sidereal zodiac. This is not the newspaper sun sign, so someone who calls themselves a Leo in a magazine column may well have a different chandra rashi.
Your moon sign is found from your exact date, time and place of birth, and it usually appears on a horoscope prepared by a family astrologer. Everything on this page assumes one partner has the Moon in Simha and the other has it in Tula. The results also depend on which partner is the bride and which is the groom, so we explain each direction separately.
What happens when the bride is Simha and the groom is Tula?
Counting from the bride's sign to the groom's, Tula is the 3rd sign from Simha. In Sinhala porondam, rashi porondam is partly obtained, and vashya porondam is obtained. In Tamil porutham, rasi, rasi adhipathi and vasya are all not obtained in this direction.
The two rashi lords are the Sun (Simha) and Venus (Tula), which are treated as mutual enemies. For this reason rashyadhipathi porondam and rasi adhipathi porutham are both not obtained. Note that vashya is assessed differently in the two traditions here, so the Sinhala and Tamil readings do not agree on that item.
What happens when the bride is Tula and the groom is Simha?
In the reverse direction, Simha is the 11th sign counting from the bride's Tula. This count gives a better result at rashi level: rashi porondam in the Sinhala system and rasi porutham in the Tamil system are both obtained.
The rashi lords are still the Sun and Venus, so they remain mutual enemies, and rashyadhipathi and rasi adhipathi are not obtained in either tradition. Vashya porondam and vasya porutham are also not obtained in this direction. So swapping the bride and groom changes the rashi count result, while the ruling-planet result stays the same. This shows why the direction of the match matters.
Why do the birth stars matter more than the rashi?
A rashi is a broad grouping. The real match is decided by the two birth stars (nakshatra) and their quarters. For each direction there are 81 star-quarter combinations, and the results vary widely.
With the bride in Simha and the groom in Tula, about 52% of combinations pass Sinhala porondam (leaving out the weekday check), while about 95% give a weak Tamil result. With the bride in Tula and the groom in Simha, about 26% pass Sinhala porondam and about 41% are weak in Tamil. In neither direction does any combination reach 8 of 10 porutham, and none shows a Tamil rajju clash. To see your own result, use the calculator with full birth details and talk it through with a family astrologer.
