Mesha and Mesha Porondam

When a bride and groom share the same rashi, Mesha (Aries), Sri Lankan marriage matching gives a clear picture at the rashi level and leaves much to the birth stars. This page explains what the porondam (Sinhala) and porutham (Tamil) calculations show for a Mesha–Mesha pair, and why the full answer depends on each person's nakshatra.

Which Mesha are we talking about?

In Sri Lankan astrology, the rashi used for marriage matching is the moon sign (chandra rashi), the sign the Moon occupied at birth, worked out in the sidereal zodiac. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who reads 'Aries' in a magazine may well have a different chandra rashi, and the reverse is also true.

Because both partners here are Mesha, there is no difference between the two directions. Whether we place the bride or the groom first, every rashi-level result below is the same. The rashi count from one partner to the other is 1, meaning both moons fall in the very same sign.

How do rashi and rashi lord turn out for Mesha with Mesha?

The rashi item is obtained in both systems: rashi porondam in the Sinhala method and rasi porutham in the Tamil method. A count of 1 is treated as a favourable placement by the calculator.

The rashi lord item is also obtained. Mesha is ruled by Mars, so both partners share the same lord. Rather than two planets that need to be checked for friendship, there is a single planet on both sides, and the calculator records rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) as obtained. Families often find this reassuring, but it is only one part of a larger reading that also weighs the birth stars.

What does vashya show for this pair?

Vashya looks at the natural pull or compatibility between two rashis, based on traditional groupings of the signs. For a Mesha–Mesha pair, the calculator records vashya as not obtained, in both the Sinhala porondam and the Tamil porutham, and in both directions.

This is a single item among many. Astrologers rarely decide anything on one point alone; they look at the overall pattern, the birth stars and the full horoscopes together. So a vashya result that is not obtained is best read as one detail to note, not as a verdict on the match. The more decisive checks come from the nakshatra of each partner, which the next section explains.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Most porondam and porutham items are calculated from the two birth stars (nakshatra), not the rashi. Mesha covers Ashwini, Bharani and the first quarter of Krittika, giving nine star-quarters per person and 81 possible combinations for a Mesha–Mesha couple.

Those combinations vary widely. In the calculator's figures, about 20% reach 8 of 10 porutham, about 46% come out weak in the Tamil method, and about 41% show a rajju clash. About 31% pass the Sinhala porondam (leaving aside the weekday item). Two Mesha couples can therefore receive very different results. Use the calculator with full birth date, time and place, and for marriage decisions consult a family astrologer.
