About this experience
Your English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your Bentota hotel and heads south along the coast on a private, 10-hour day out. First stop is Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's celebrated country estate, where sculpted gardens spill across a rubber-plantation hillside above Dedduwa Lake. Next, drop into Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery to see nesting sites and hatchlings up close, then board a boat at Balapitiya for a one-hour safari through the mangrove channels of the Madu River — watch monitor lizards, water birds, and temple islands drift by. The day closes in Galle Fort, the UNESCO-listed Dutch colonial citadel, where rampart walks, cobbled lanes, and lighthouse views reward a relaxed wander.
Throughout the tour you travel in an air-conditioned vehicle, and a water bottle is provided per person. Hotel pickup and drop-off from Bentota are included, as are the river boat safari and the turtle hatchery visit. Entrance tickets to Lunuganga Estate and Madu River, meals, drinks, and gratuities are not included. Minimum age is 5.
