Sewanagala Ayurveda is a Sri Lankan maker of Ayurvedic medicines from Sewanagala, in the sugar-cane country of the south-east near Embilipitiya. It was founded by Dr. Kamal Bandula Weerapperuma, an Ayurvedic physician, and has been making Ayurvedic preparations for more than forty years. The company, Sewanagala Ayurvedic Drugs Manufacture (Pvt) Ltd, works from Bogaha Junction, Kiriibbanwewa, and grows many of its herbs on its own ten-acre herb garden, the Sewanagala Hela Osu Uyana, where it keeps rare plants such as red sandalwood, aralu, nelli and hathawariya. Its cinnamon comes from its own plantations. The packs are labelled in Sinhala, Tamil and English and registered with the Department of Ayurveda; here they are shipped worldwide from Sri Lanka.
Rasayana and confections. Thick, spoonable pastes of spices and herbs in ghee and honey, taken in small measures with milk. Kameshwari Modakaya and its export pack are the maker's Kameshwari formula of more than twenty spices; Shrungara Kameshwari is a 150 g version. Jeewashakthi Rasayanaya is built on ashwagandha, wild asparagus, black gram and grapes, and Sarasingha Rasayanaya on balloon vine, wild asparagus and liquorice. The Kameshwari, Shrungara and Jeewashakthi recipes list hemp, which is controlled in many countries, so check your local rules before ordering.
Capsules. Sixty-capsule bottles of single herbs and simple blends: Welpenela (balloon vine), Braahmi (gotukola and lunuwila), Cinnamon (from the maker's plantations) and the Liver Boosting Capsule (heen bowitiya and yaki naran).
Powders, honey blends and drinks. Dasapanguwa, ten sachets of ten dried herbs boiled into a traditional drink; Garcinia Choorna, a goraka and spice powder; Honeybee & Cinnamon and Garlic & Honeybee mixes in 250 g jars; Madhuka Cough Syrup; and Amlapiththa Suwaya, a 375 ml herbal liquid.
Oils and balm. Handiraja Oil, the maker's signature massage oil of dasamul and ashwagandha, and Handiraja Balm made from it; BB Oil, a body massage oil for women; and a herbal Beard Oil.
These are Ayurvedic medicines. Follow the dose on the label and ask a qualified Ayurvedic physician before use.
