Larns Villa is a small beachfront guest house on Beach Road in Wadduwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka. With just eight rooms, an outdoor pool in its garden and the sand directly in front, it is a quiet, informal place to stay by the sea rather than a large resort.
The villa stands on Beach Road at Pohaddaramulla in Wadduwa, a few steps from Wadduwa Beach. Pothupitiya Beach is about a 12-minute walk along the coast, and Colombo lies to the north along the same shoreline. Wadduwa is a quiet beach town between Colombo and Kalutara, served by the coastal railway line.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the villa by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. There are eight air-conditioned rooms, each with its own balcony or patio looking over the garden or towards the ocean. Rooms have en-suite bathrooms, a flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi, and the villa keeps a 24-hour front desk.
The villa has its own restaurant, where breakfast is served each morning, and room service is available if you would rather eat on your balcony. There is also a barbecue area for evenings outdoors, a short walk from the sea.
Most days here are spent on the beach or by the pool, with sunset walks along the sand. Further south are the Kalutara Bodhiya temple, the Richmond Castle mansion near Kalutara, the river safaris and water sports around Bentota, and the turtle hatcheries at Kosgoda, while Galle Fort and the sights of Colombo are both within reach for a day trip.
