Hotel Susantha Garden is a small, Sri Lankan-owned hotel in Bentota that grew out of a batik workshop. It began in 1971 as the Susantha Batik Factory, a low-walled, thatched compound where batiks were made by hand for visitors; a simple restaurant followed, the first seven rooms were built in 1982, and over the years the guesthouse became a hotel, with a central garden planted where the factory once stood.
The hotel is on Nikethana Road at Pitaramba in Bentota, on the south-west coast. Bentota railway station is about 50 metres away, a minute's walk, and the sandy beach is about 100 metres from the gate. Aluthgama town is about 2 km to the north, and Colombo lies roughly 80 km up the coast.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 110 km from the hotel by road, and the drive usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours on the airport and Southern expressways, depending on traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the hotel in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Hotel Susantha Garden.
The hotel lists Standard Rooms with a balcony and seating area, Deluxe Rooms with a work desk, Sea View rooms, and Family Bungalows with a seating area and a kitchen, alongside two fully equipped self-catering apartments. Rooms are air-conditioned, with a TV, a minibar and tea and coffee making facilities.
The restaurant and bar sit in the garden, and the hotel also runs a pizzeria. The garden restaurant is popular with guests from other hotels nearby as well as those staying in-house.
There is a swimming pool, a spa offering massage and Ayurvedic treatments, free Wi-Fi and a laundry service, as well as a tailor and a gem and jewellery shop on site. The hotel arranges excursions in its own transport, including its own tuk-tuk, and can organise airport pick-ups and drop-offs. Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, is about 10 km away, and Galle Fort is about 55 km down the coast, an easy day trip.
