A paste-and-cut workbook for young children, published in English by M. D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo. The format is the same on every page: an animal — mice, foxes, rabbits among them — is printed as a dotted outline, with a small coloured reference image alongside to show how the finished picture should look.
The coloured sections the child needs are printed on the following page. They are cut out and pasted onto the matching parts of the dotted outline, so each animal is built up piece by piece rather than simply coloured in. Cutting, gluing and matching are combined in one task, which is what gives the book its purpose: fine motor control, hand-eye coordination and sustained concentration, practised through something a child treats as play rather than work.
It suits children at the stage where they are learning to handle scissors and glue with some precision but still want an immediate, recognisable result at the end of it. Parents and nursery teachers looking for structured craft activity — rather than a blank page and a box of crayons — will find the sequence straightforward to supervise, since each page sets its own small, finishable goal.
