A young boy embarks on a fateful voyage across the Indian Ocean in the early 1950s, assigned to the ship's lowly 'cat's table' alongside a motley crew of adults and two fellow boys. As the liner cuts through open waters, the trio tumbles from adventure to adventure, their curiosity drawn to a mysterious shackled prisoner whose dark secret becomes an enduring obsession. This novel captures the thrill and unease of a transformative journey where childhood innocence collides with shadowy adult mysteries.
