Vrishabha and Tula Porondam

Vrishabha (Taurus) and Tula (Libra) share the same ruling planet, Venus, which gives this pairing an interesting mix of rashi-level results. Here we explain what the porondam and porutham calculators find for this pair, in both directions, and why the final picture always depends on the two birth stars.

Which rashi is being matched here?

In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi), worked out in the sidereal zodiac used by local astrologers. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so a person who reads as Taurus or Libra in a magazine may have a different moon sign altogether.

Because the rashi is found from the moon's position at the moment of birth, it needs an accurate date, time and place. This page looks only at the rashi-level items for a Vrishabha and Tula pairing. The Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham systems each check these items, then add many more based on the birth stars (nakshatra) of the bride and groom.

What happens when the bride is Vrishabha and the groom is Tula?

Counting from the bride's sign to the groom's gives 6. In both the Sinhala and Tamil systems, the rashi item for this count is not obtained.

The rashi lords tell a happier story. Both Vrishabha and Tula are ruled by Venus, and since it is the same planet, rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) are both obtained. Vashya, the item of natural attraction between the signs, is also obtained in both systems.

So in this direction, two of the three rashi-level items are obtained. That is a reasonable starting point, but it is only the opening part of the calculation.

What changes when the bride is Tula and the groom is Vrishabha?

Reversing the pair changes the count from the bride's sign to the groom's to 8. Here the systems differ slightly: in Sinhala porondam the rashi item is partly obtained, while in Tamil porutham it is not obtained.

The shared lord Venus still applies, so rashyadhipathi and rasi adhipathi remain obtained. Vashya, however, is not obtained in this direction in either system.

This shows why direction matters. The same two signs can give different results depending on which partner is the bride and which is the groom, so it is always worth checking the pairing the right way round.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each rashi spans several star quarters, so any Vrishabha and Tula pairing covers 81 possible star-quarter combinations. The outcomes across these vary a great deal.

With a Vrishabha bride and Tula groom, about 40% of combinations reach 8 of 10 porutham, about 5% are weak in the Tamil system, about 5% show a Tamil rajju clash, and about 64% pass Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday item).

With a Tula bride and Vrishabha groom, none reach 8 of 10 porutham and about 32% are weak in Tamil, yet about 75% pass Sinhala porondam, with about 5% showing a rajju clash. The stars, not the signs alone, settle the result.
