Simha and Dhanu Porondam

Simha and Dhanu are two fire signs whose rashi lords, the Sun and Jupiter, are friends. This page explains what the rashi-level porondam and porutham show for this pair in both directions, and why the two birth stars are what really decide a match.

Which Simha and Dhanu does this page mean?

In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi). It is the sign the Moon occupied at birth in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so your Simha or Dhanu here may differ from your familiar star sign.

Porondam (Sinhala) and porutham (Tamil) compare the bride's and groom's charts item by item. A few items depend only on the two rashis: the rashi count itself, the friendship of the rashi lords and vashya. Direction matters, because counting from the bride's sign to the groom's sign can give a different result from the reverse. The sections below explain each direction.

What happens when the bride is Simha and the groom is Dhanu?

Counting from the bride's Simha to the groom's Dhanu gives 5. In both the Sinhala and Tamil systems, the rashi item is not obtained for this count.

The rashi lords are the Sun for Simha and Jupiter for Dhanu, and they are mutual friends. So rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) are obtained, which is a welcome point of harmony between the two signs.

Vashya, which looks at the natural affinity between signs, is not obtained in either system for this pair. These are only three items, though, and most of the assessment rests on the birth stars rather than the rashis alone.

What changes when the bride is Dhanu and the groom is Simha?

Reversing the pair changes the count. From the bride's Dhanu to the groom's Simha, the count is 9, and the rashi item is obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.

The rashi lord result is the same as before. Jupiter and the Sun are mutual friends, so rashyadhipathi and rasi adhipathi are obtained.

Vashya is again not obtained in both systems. At rashi level, then, this direction obtains two of the three items. The other direction obtains one. This is a good example of why matching always notes who is the bride and who is the groom, rather than treating a pair of signs as a single fixed result.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Each rashi spans parts of several nakshatras, divided into quarters (padas). Simha and Dhanu together allow 81 star-quarter combinations, and the results across them vary widely.

With a Simha bride and Dhanu groom, none of the combinations reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams. About 46% give a weaker overall Tamil result, and rajju is not obtained in about 41%. Yet 95% pass the Sinhala porondam assessment, excluding the weekday item.

With a Dhanu bride and Simha groom, 10% reach 8 of 10 poruthams and 41% are weaker on the Tamil count. Rajju is not obtained in 41%, and all 100% pass the Sinhala assessment, excluding the weekday item. Only the two actual birth stars can show where a couple falls.
