Accepted Answer

Sri Lanka Railways offers online seat reservations for main-line services through its official website. Tickets can also be purchased at Colombo Fort Station and larger regional stations. For smaller stops like Laksauyana, confirming availability in advance is wise.

What is the best time of year to visit Polonnaruwa District by train?

Accepted Answer

The most comfortable period for visiting is generally between May and September for the dry season, or from December to March when the northeast monsoon has passed. The elephant gatherings at Minneriya and Kaudulla peak roughly between July and October, making that window popular with wildlife travellers.
