About this experience
Located in the historic city of Polonnaruwa, Kaudulla National Park is a haven for elephants, who reside here in large herds among its big lakes and lush green fields. The Kaudulla reservoir is the park's lifeline, drawing elephants during the dry season from the nearby Minneriya, Wasgamuwa and Somawathiya National Parks — black elephants set against silvery water and emerald grassland make a memorable sight.
In your private jeep, with an experienced driver-tracker, you'll bump along small trails through evergreen forest in search of wildlife. Besides elephants, look out for sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, chevrotain, wild boar, Asian spoonbill, grey-headed fish eagle, painted stork and openbill stork, with rare chances of leopards and sloth bears. June to September is the best time to visit.
