The subject is the birth chart and what it is held to say about when, and whether, a person marries. J.A.S. Jayakody begins from a familiar situation: a young man or woman of marriageable age, perhaps good-looking, perhaps well off, perhaps settled in a good job, who nonetheless finds no suitable partner. Astrologers, the book explains, attribute such delays to the position of the planets in that person's chart — and equally hold that marriage can come quickly once a chart with matching placements appears. Alongside this runs the question of porondam, the compatibility factors that astrological practice treats as essential when two charts are considered together.
What distinguishes the treatment is the level it is pitched at. Jayakody writes in plain, direct Sinhala, and the explanations are built so that no prior grounding in nakshatra lore is needed to follow them. A reader approaching the subject for the first time, or someone who has had a chart read and wants to understand what was being described, can work through it without a technical vocabulary.
