About this experience
Step into an air-conditioned vehicle in Negombo and head north to Wilpattu National Park, one of Sri Lanka's largest and oldest wildlife reserves. After roughly two hours on the road, you transfer to a safari jeep for a six-hour game drive through the park's distinctive villus — natural lakes ringed by dense forest. Keep your binoculars ready: Wilpattu is Sri Lanka's best-known stronghold for the Lankan Leopard, while Sloth Bears, Spotted Deer, and Water Buffalo also roam the scrubland. Birdwatchers and butterfly enthusiasts will find plenty to focus on between the larger sightings.
Your English-speaking chauffeur guide handles the driving and commentary throughout the full 11-hour day. Hotel pickup and drop-off in Negombo, transport, the safari jeep, and a water bottle per person are all covered. Entrance tickets to the park, meals, and gratuities are not included. Minimum age for the tour is six years. This is a private activity, so the jeep is yours alone.

Much better than expected
We (a group of 4 adults) know that wild animals do not show up on command. This, combined with the fact that one of us is a photographer and has experience from safari in Africa, was the reason we had booked both a full-…

Amazing wildlife, but questionable ticketing experience
Overall, a great park experience - we saw a leopard, Sri Lanka junglefowl, deer, a falcon, even a small bear, and plenty of buffalo. Worth visiting.
But the ticketing felt like a scam. We were charged full foreigner rat…

Yes, of course
We booked a full day to visit wilpattu in the hope of spotting lots of wildlife. The park is very wet, but no less beautiful, due to the heavy rain that has fallen recently. We are there to spot the wild bear and of cour…
