About this experience
Your private, English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your Colombo hotel and heads south along the coast. First stop is a virgin white tea factory, where you step inside the production floor, watch the careful withering and drying of freshly plucked leaves, and learn what sets white tea apart from its more common cousins. Along the route, look out for stilt fishermen perched above the surf on their characteristic wooden poles — a sight unique to Sri Lanka's southern shoreline.
The tour continues into Galle, where you explore the 17th-century Galle Fort on foot. Walk the broad ramparts, browse the cobbled streets lined with Dutch colonial architecture, and take in the lighthouse and harbour views. Transport throughout is by private air-conditioned vehicle, and a litre of bottled mineral water is provided per person. The full day runs to 12 hours, is open to travellers aged five and above, and is operated entirely in English. Entrance fees and meals are not included.
