About this experience
Board your private, air-conditioned vehicle in Weligama and head to Udawalawe National Park — one of Sri Lanka's premier wildlife reserves, covering over 30,000 hectares of grassland and scrub forest on the southern edge of the Central Highlands. Your English-speaking chauffeur handles the roughly 90-kilometre drive, so you arrive relaxed and ready for the park gates to open.
Once inside, transfer to a jeep for your safari through the reserve. Udawalawe is home to a large resident elephant population that gathers near the reservoir, alongside water buffalo, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birdlife. The full excursion runs seven hours, with hotel pick-up and drop-off included. Note that park entrance tickets, food and drinks are not included, so bring local rupees and a packed lunch or snacks for the ride.
