About this experience
Set off from Balapitiya in an air-conditioned vehicle for the drive to Udawalawe National Park, one of Sri Lanka's premier wildlife reserves. Your English-speaking safari driver — who doubles as your tracker — meets you at your hotel and handles pickup and drop-off throughout. On arrival, you board an open safari jeep and spend three hours scanning the park's sweeping plains and grasslands for elephants, water buffalo, and the many endemic and migratory birds that call this landscape home. A one-litre bottle of water per person is included for the ride.
The full excursion runs eight hours, giving you comfortable travel time each way without feeling rushed inside the park. Minimum age for the safari is seven years. Note that entrance tickets to Udawalawe National Park, meals, and gratuities are not included, so carry some cash for the gate fee and any snacks you want along the way.
