A retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen story for young readers, part of a series of fairy tale books from M. D. Gunasena & Co. prepared for children in Sri Lanka. The text is kept simple, and the pages are illustrated in colour.
Priyangwada Perera retells the story in English. The aim of the series is plain enough: familiar fairy tales in a form small children can follow, either read aloud to them or worked through with help as their reading steadies.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, with a substantial list of school and children's titles in Sinhala and English. This edition will suit parents and teachers looking for the classic stories in a short, picture-led format, and readers abroad who want children's books published in Sri Lanka rather than imported versions of the same tales.
