Somerset Maugham reflects on the ideas and experiences that shaped his lifetime of writing in this personal essay collection composed at age sixty-four. Part autobiography, part philosophical meditation, the work explores the themes and subjects that most captivated the celebrated author throughout his life. Rather than a traditional life story, Maugham offers intimate observations on literature, philosophy, and human nature with characteristic wit and candor. This collection captures a literary master's candid appraisal of his own work and worldview.
