Step into your private vehicle at 8:00 am as your English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your hotel in Balapitiya. Over ten hours, you travel the Southern Coast, stopping to watch stilt fishermen balance on their poles above the surf, touring a working tea factory to see how leaves become the cup you drink every morning, and walking the ramparts of the 17th-century Galle Fort. A fresh seafood lunch breaks up the day before you head back north.
The highlight on the water is a boat safari along the Madu River, weaving through mangrove channels and spotting the wildlife that lines the banks.
