About this experience
Your chauffeur collects you from your Ahungalla hotel at 8:00 am in an air-conditioned vehicle. The day heads south to the Handunugoda Tea Factory — one of Sri Lanka's only tea estates sitting close to the coast — where a guided tour reveals how the leaves are processed just kilometres from the shoreline. From there, you move on to Galle Fort, walking the Dutch colonial ramparts and exploring the streets of the original town before lunch.
The afternoon brings a two-hour boat safari through the mangrove channels of the Madu River, where the waterways open into a calm, birdlife-rich landscape. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide is with you throughout the full ten hours, and a bottle of water is provided per person. Hotel pickup and drop-off from Ahungalla are included; entrance tickets and meals are at your own cost. This is a private tour, with a minimum age of five.
