A retelling of the Snow White story for young readers, prepared in English by Priyangwada Perera and illustrated throughout. It belongs to M.D. Gunasena's series of fairy tales, in which familiar stories are told afresh for children of a new generation.
The tale itself needs little introduction: a princess, a jealous queen, a flight into the forest and the seven dwarfs who take her in. What this edition offers is that story set down in straightforward English and paired with pictures, in a form intended for reading aloud to a child or for a child beginning to read alone.
M.D. Gunasena & Co. is an established Colombo publisher with a long presence in Sri Lankan bookselling, publishing in Sinhala and in English. Its fairy tale series is aimed squarely at the home and the classroom, and is often bought as a gift.
Suitable for families outside Sri Lanka who want their children's storybooks in English from a Sri Lankan publisher, and for anyone building a shelf of picture-book retellings for young readers.
