A set of practice books for children who are not yet at school, intended to build the hand control that writing depends on before any letters are attempted. The sequence begins with lines and curves — the shapes that underlie every character — and moves on to forming capital letters, then small letters, then numbers.
The approach is the familiar one of repeated tracing and copying, with the child holding a pencil and working directly on the page. What it asks of a parent or teacher is supervision rather than instruction: sitting alongside, correcting grip, and keeping the sessions short. Children arriving at school already able to hold a pencil steadily and shape a letter without hesitation tend to find the first term easier, and that is what this material is for.
The books are in English throughout. They suit a Sri Lankan home where English writing is being introduced early, and equally any household abroad preparing a child for the start of school.
