SLADC Punarnawasawaya takes its name from punarnava, the Sanskrit name for Boerhavia diffusa (sarana), a creeping plant common on Sri Lankan roadsides. It is an asawaya, a traditional fermented herbal liquid, and among its ingredients the corporation also lists ginger (Zingiber officinale, inguru), Picrorhiza kurroa (katukarosana), Tinospora cordifolia (rasakinda) and grapes (Vitis vinifera, muddarappalam).
Fermentation leaves a small amount of natural alcohol in the bottle, which the maker gives as 5 to 6 percent. You can choose a 375 ml or a 750 ml bottle.
The Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation (SLADC) is Sri Lanka’s state-owned maker of Ayurvedic medicines, at Navinna in Maharagama since 1969. Ask a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before use.
