A grammar of Sinhala, written in Sinhala, and intended for students working through the language's grammar in a formal course of study. It gathers together more or less the full range of grammatical topics such a student is expected to cover.
The author, Professor W. S. Karunathilake, served for a period as head of the linguistics department at the University of Kelaniya, and the book comes out of that academic background rather than from general-interest publishing.
A point international buyers should note before ordering: the entire text is in Sinhala. There is no English translation or parallel text, and the grammatical terminology is in Sinhala throughout. Readers who cannot read Sinhala script will not be able to use it, and those learning the language from English will find it assumes the reader is already working within Sinhala. It is best suited to students in Sri Lankan schools and universities, to teachers of the language, and to readers abroad who have Sinhala literacy and want a systematic treatment of the grammar to study from or refer back to.
