Sigiriya, the Lion's Rock, is an ancient rock fortress and palace complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rising straight out of the surrounding jungle and countryside. You visit it with a local guide who explains what you are looking at as you go, from the ruins of King Kashyapa's palace to the frescoes painted on the rock face. Your entrance ticket is bought online through Lakpura in advance, so you skip the ticket queues, with the option to collect the physical ticket on site.
You meet your guide at the rock and work upward through the site, passing the well-preserved ruins, the famous mirror wall and the vibrant frescoes that decorate the rock. The climb continues to the summit, where the panorama opens out over jungle and countryside in every direction. Early morning or late afternoon is the recommended time to make the climb and avoid the midday heat.
The tour runs three hours in total and is bookable for one to eight guests, with instant confirmation when you book. The price covers your entrance ticket, guide and taxes. Citizens of SAARC member countries are eligible for discounted entrance tickets; present your passport at the time of purchase. Pick-up and drop-off is not included but can be arranged for an additional fee. Cancellation is free with more than 24 hours' notice, with no refund inside that window.
