Rani Selvarajah reimagines the ancient myth of Medea in eighteenth-century Calcutta, where Bengal trembles on the edge of conflict as the East India Company advances with ruthless intent. Meena, a neglected and abused woman caught in the Nawab's household, must navigate betrayal and power in a time of war. This propulsive retelling weaves together page-turning drama and complex character work to illuminate themes of agency and survival amid colonial upheaval.
