An edited edition of a Sinhala text concerned with Weliwita Sri Saranankara Thera — his life, and his work on behalf of the nation, the religion and the Buddhist order. The whole book is in Sinhala, with no English text, so it will suit readers who can follow Sinhala prose.
Until this edition appeared, no authoritative edition of the work had been published. Premasiri Nagasinghe, a senior lecturer in the Department of Sinhala at the University of Colombo, worked from palm-leaf manuscripts and followed accepted methods of textual editing in preparing the text.
Weliwita Sri Saranankara is a central figure in the religious history of the Kandyan period, and Sangarajawatha belongs to the body of Sinhala writing that records his career. This edition puts the text on a documented footing for students of Sinhala literature and of Buddhist history, and for general readers in Sinhala who want the work itself rather than an account of it.
