A children's songbook in Sinhala, with words written and set to music by Visharada Edward Jayakody. The songs are new ones, gathered here in a fresh arrangement for young singers, and each is presented alongside its corresponding notation.
The illustrations are by Sybil Wettasinghe, whose drawings have accompanied generations of Sinhala children's books. An audio compact disc is supplied with the book at no additional cost. It carries the songs themselves and also the music tracks behind them, so that children can sing along without the vocal line. For a small number of the songs, a sung rendition of the notes is included as a model, to give children a sense of how the notation is voiced. The singing on the disc is by Edward Jayakody, Charitha Priyadarshani Peiris and a group of children.
The publisher intends the collection for pre-school and primary-grade children. Lyrics, notation and all supporting text are in Sinhala, which matters for buyers outside Sri Lanka: a reader or parent will need Sinhala to use the book as it stands, though the recorded tracks can be followed by ear.
