The Lakpura Red Giant Mango Grafted Plant is a young tree sapling of Mangifera indica — the mango species cultivated across South Asia for thousands of years — selected for the deep crimson skin that develops on its large, oval fruit. It arrives in a dark brown cylindrical nursery grow bag, already rooted and growing, ready to be established in a garden bed or a suitably large container in a warm, sunny position.
Grafting is the reason this plant is worth choosing over a seedling raised from seed. A skilled grafter takes budwood, known as the scion, from a parent tree of known fruit character and joins it to a separate rootstock. The resulting plant carries the genetic identity of that parent tree, so the fruit it eventually produces faithfully reflects the cultivar rather than expressing the unpredictable variation that seed-grown trees often show. Grafted trees also come into bearing sooner than seedlings — typically within three to five years of planting.
Mangifera indica is a large, long-lived evergreen tree with deep green, lance-shaped leaves and a broad, dense crown. The sapling photographed shows exactly these characteristics: slender upright stem, multiple elongated leaves arranged along its length, and the vigorous early growth expected of a grafted plant. Given adequate space and full sun, a mature tree develops into a substantial presence in the garden, producing fruit season after season for many years.
The fruit shown in the product photographs is oval-rounded with a predominantly deep red to crimson skin, a faint green-yellow patch at the stem base, and fine dark speckling across the surface — a normal surface feature, known as lenticels, found on many red-skinned mango cultivars. The short dried stalk visible at the top is consistent with a freshly detached mature fruit. Mangoes of this type are eaten fresh when ripe, and the fruit is also suited to drying, blending, and cooking across a wide range of preparations.
Mango trees thrive in tropical and subtropical climates with full sun and well-drained soil. They are suited to USDA hardiness zones 9 through 11. In regions with distinct wet and dry seasons — such as much of Sri Lanka — they follow a natural annual flowering and fruiting cycle. The Sri Lanka Department of Agriculture recommends grafted or budded planting material for home and commercial orchards, and this plant is supplied in that tradition: propagated from known parent stock, potted, and ready for its new growing site.
