This is a colouring book built from one of Sybil Wettasinghe's children's stories. It belongs to a series in which her story books have been reworked for children to read and colour, keeping the original tale and the original drawings as the basis of the pages. The idea behind the format is straightforward: a child reads the story, and the pictures that form in the mind are given somewhere to go on paper.
The story and the artwork here are taken from Wettasinghe's Nari Nayide Rewatuna. She is a Sri Lankan writer and illustrator of children's books, and her line drawings are familiar to generations of Sinhala readers.
The text is in Sinhala throughout, with no English translation. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should know this before ordering: a child who cannot read Sinhala will still be able to colour the drawings, but the story itself will need a Sinhala reader to share it aloud.
Suited to young children at home or in a Sinhala-medium classroom, and to Sri Lankan families abroad who want their children working with the language and with pictures they grew up on. Published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd.
