A retelling of the Rapunzel story for children, written in English by Priyangwada Perera and illustrated throughout. It is one title in the M.D. Gunasena Fairy Tales series, in which familiar tales are retold afresh for young readers.
The source story is one of the old European fairy tales — a girl shut away in a tower, her long hair, the figure who climbs it — and it has been passed between generations for a long time. Here it is set down again in a version meant to be read with or to a child, with pictures to carry the telling along.
M.D. Gunasena & Co. is a Sri Lankan publisher based in Colombo, and this series is its own line of illustrated fairy tales for children. The book is produced in English.
Suited to a child beginning to read independently, or to an adult reading aloud, and intended as the kind of book given as a gift.
