A retelling of the familiar tale of the clever cat who wins his master a fortune, written for children in simple English by Priyangwada Perera. The telling is kept plain and direct, pitched at young readers working through a story on their own or following along as it is read aloud.
The book belongs to a series of fairy tales published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. for children in Sri Lanka, each issued in a hardbound cover. Colour illustrations run through the volume, carrying the action alongside the text for readers who are still more comfortable with pictures than with paragraphs.
M. D. Gunasena is an established Colombo publisher and bookseller with a long presence in Sri Lankan schoolbooks and children's publishing. This title sits in that part of their list: sturdy editions of well-known stories, produced for home and classroom use rather than for the collector's shelf.
Suitable for early readers, for parents building a first shelf of storybooks at home, and for anyone outside Sri Lanka who wants a locally produced children's edition of a European fairy tale.
