About this experience
Your chauffeur collects you from your Bentota hotel at 6:00 am for the three-and-a-half-hour drive to Pinnawala, in the Sabaragamuwa province. On arrival, you spend roughly three hours at the orphanage, home to more than 70 rescued elephants — the largest captive herd in the world. Watch the baby elephants gulp down bottles of milk at the 9:15 am feeding session, then follow the herd down to the river for their bath. You can walk the facility freely and learn more about how the mahouts care for these displaced animals day to day.
The tour wraps up at the orphanage around 11:00 am, and your chauffeur has you back at your Bentota hotel by 4:00 pm — a full 10-hour private day trip with hotel pick-up and drop-off included. Note that entrance fees to the orphanage, meals, and personal expenses are not covered, so bring some rupees for the gate. All taxes are included in your booking.
