A Sinhala collection of stories about Nasrudin, the figure whose tales have been published in many countries and under many different names. The whole book is in Sinhala, so a reader will need the language to use it.
The traditions that have grown up around Nasrudin place his birth in the village of Hortu, in Sivrihisar in the Eskişehir region of present-day Turkey. He is said to have lived at Eskişehir and later to have moved to the city of Konya during the period of Seljuk rule. Beyond that outline, what has carried his name across so many languages is the stories themselves, which have been retold, adapted and reprinted far from where they began.
Percy Jayamanne gathers a further set of those stories here for Sinhala readers. It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd of Colombo, a house publishing in Sinhala and English.
