This Malwatte tin holds BOP black tea labelled Uva Seasonal Flush. The pale blue tin carries an old photograph of men carrying tea chests across a river, the Ceylon Tea lion mark and the words Ceylon Black Tea, Uva Seasonal Flush, BOP, 150g net.
BOP stands for broken orange pekoe: the leaf is broken into small pieces, so it brews quickly and gives a strong, deep-coloured cup. Uva is the tea region in the hills of Sri Lanka where Malwatte Valley grows tea on about 4,500 hectares.
In the tin
- 150g of BOP Ceylon black tea
- Rectangular lidded tin, Single Estate Tea
- The largest size in this tin range
How to brew
Use one level teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup with freshly boiled water. Because the leaf is broken, 3 to 4 minutes is usually enough. It takes milk well and also works as plain kahata.
Storage
Close the lid firmly after use and keep the tin in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and strong smells.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
