This OPA black tea comes in the Malwatte Valley Best Sellers Tea Choice box, the newer orange and green printed design with rolling tea hills, a Loose Leaf Tea badge, Pure Ceylon Tea and 100g net weight on the front.
OPA stands for orange pekoe A, a whole-leaf grade of larger, bolder long leaf than OP. It opens up slowly in the pot and gives a mellow, lighter-bodied cup. Malwatte Valley Plantations grows tea on about 4,500 hectares in the Uva region and processes it in its own factories.
In the box
- 100g of loose-leaf OPA Ceylon black tea
- Printed card box with the Ceylon Tea lion mark
- The same grade also comes in the tall Pure Ceylon Tea box
How to brew
Allow one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup, pour on freshly boiled water and brew for 4 to 5 minutes. Take it plain as kahata or add milk and sugar.
Storage
Once opened, fold the inner pack closed or tip the leaf into an airtight caddy, and keep it in a cool, dry place away from strong smells.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
