A dictionary of Sinhala, compiled to explain the meanings of Sinhala words to readers of Sinhala. It works from base words — the root forms from which the wider vocabulary is built — and gives the sense of each.
The whole book is in Sinhala. Headwords, definitions and any front matter are in Sinhala script, and there is no English parallel text or English index. A buyer outside Sri Lanka should be comfortable reading Sinhala before ordering: this is a monolingual reference work for people already working in the language, not a bilingual dictionary for learners coming to it from English.
The compiler, Harischandra Wijayathunga, is a lexicographer who holds a doctorate, and this is his compilation rather than an adaptation of an existing work. It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co., an established Sri Lankan publishing house whose list includes educational and reference titles in Sinhala.
