Michael Morpurgo weaves a gripping tale set in May 1915, when Alfie and his fisherman father discover an injured girl with no memory on a remote island in the Scillies. With only her name—Lucy—to offer, the mysterious stranger becomes the centre of an island mystery as rumours swirl about her identity: castaway, mermaid, U-boat victim, or enemy spy. As Alfie searches for the truth, the secrets of Lucy's past gradually unfold against the turbulent backdrop of the First World War.
