Li Bonikka Saha Yakinna

From$3.00

A children's story in Sinhala, following the adventures of Thiriyosha, a mischievous wooden doll. The tale comes from the Russian writer Alexei Tolstoy, with the Sinhala text by Dedigama V. Rodrigo.

Readers who know Pinocchio will recognise something of it in the opening — a wooden figure, a beginning that runs along familiar lines — but the story soon turns away and goes its own way entirely. It is pitched at younger children, and serves as an early introduction to Russian literature for readers in Sinhala.

The publisher is M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd of Colombo, a long-established Sri Lankan house.

Please note that the entire book is in Sinhala. There is no English text, so it suits households where a child reads or is read to in Sinhala, Sinhala-language classrooms, and families abroad keeping up the language with their children.
