Ten children's songs recorded by the singer Nanda Malini some years ago are gathered here in book form. The text is in Sinhala throughout, so a reader will need Sinhala to use it.
Each song is set out with its notation, giving the melodic line alongside the words rather than the lyrics alone. The book is issued together with a compact disc on which the same songs are sung by Nanda Malini herself, in a new musical arrangement made for this collection. The material is therefore offered to a new generation of listeners in two forms at once: on the page, where the songs can be read and learned, and in sound, in the voice that first carried them.
Nanda Malini is a Sinhala vocalist of long standing, and holds the title Visharada. This is a slim collection of her children's repertoire rather than a survey of her wider work.
