Lakpura® Pure Ceylon GP1 Grade Green Tea is a loose leaf gunpowder green tea from the highland tea gardens of Sri Lanka. GP1 stands for Gunpowder Grade 1, and the leaf lives up to the name: each piece is rolled into a small, tight pellet that looks much like a grain of gunpowder.
The leaves are steamed, rolled into tightly bound pellets and then dried. This way of making gunpowder tea gives the finished leaf its compact, rounded shape, and its flavour reflects the place where the tea was grown.
In the cup it brews to a light yellow liquor. The taste is mellow and slightly smoky, with medium astringency and a well-bodied flavour carrying the fragrance of Ceylon tea.
The tea comes in a lidded woven box holding 100g of loose leaf. The weave runs in a diamond pattern, finished with pale trim around the lid and base.
