About this experience
Diyawanna Lake sits in the middle of Colombo, and from water level the city drops out of view behind reeds and tree cover. You paddle a sit-in kayak with rear rudder control, single or double, across calm open water where waterbirds work the shallows and the light stays soft. It is a straightforward outdoor hour or two close to the city, suitable whether you paddle often or have never held a blade before.
You start on the bank with a safety briefing from the lifeguard on duty, fit your life jacket, and push off. From there the route is yours to set: drift along the quieter arms of the lake for birdwatching, stop paddling to take photographs, or simply sit still and let the kayak turn. Choose a later slot and you paddle into sunset, with gold spreading across the surface as the day cools. The lifeguard stays on the water throughout, backed by an emergency motorboat.
The price covers your kayak and all safety equipment, with a lifeguard, first aid and insurance included. Booking is confirmed instantly, for one to eight guests, with a total duration of two hours. Cancel free of charge more than 24 hours ahead; inside that window no refund applies. Food, drinks and transport to the starting point are not provided. Operating hours run from 7:30 to 18:00. The activity is not suitable for non-swimmers or people with mobility impairments.
